In a lab, where scientists dwell, They sought a cure, a magic spell, For HIV, a dreadful plight, To bring hope, to shine a light. Aplaviroc, a name so grand, A CCR5 inhibitor, a helping hand, To block the virus, keep it at bay, A glimmer of hope, a brighter day. Trials were conducted, hopes were high, But alas, concerns began to fly, Liver toxicity, a cause for alarm, The studies halted, causing much harm. Some say, poor efficacy was found, The drug's development, no longer sound, The ASCENT study, a tale of woe, Aplaviroc, under-effective, we now know.
