AM-119
In the waters deep and wide,
A ship sailed with great pride,
USS Sustain, her name so grand,
A minesweeper, brave and grand.
Laid down in forty-one, oh what a sight,
By the American Ship Building, shining so bright,
Launched in forty-two, with cheers and glee,
Sponsored by Mrs. L. L. Dean, full of glee.
On a November day, she set sail,
To Quebec, she did not fail,
Waiting for a convoy, strong and true,
To escort them, the brave crew.
Through Halifax, they made their way,
In December, on that fateful day,
To Boston, they sailed with might,
After a yard period, shining so bright.
Coastal convoy duty, they did perform,
March nineteen forty-three, a new norm,
To Bermuda, they sailed with grace,
Joining other ships, a North Africa race.
