Lay a trawler, small and free. Her name was Holy Cross, you see, Built for fishing, wild and glee. For this ship, so strong and grand. Her name was changed, by command, To Kite, a name that would withstand. With her crew, side by side. A minesweeper, on the tide, Protecting ships, with pride. With a mission, she would not fail. To clear the seas, like a fairy's trail, USS Kite, the mighty, without a wail. USS Kite, a hero's shrine. In World War II, she did shine, A symbol of courage, for all time.
