AOL Original
Once upon a time, in the online land,
A web portal was born, oh so grand.
AOL, it was called, with a catchy name,
Bringing the internet to the fame.
PlayNET was its ancestor, you see,
With software licensed to Quantum Link, so free.
In '85, it went online, a new sensation,
And in '88, IBM PC client took its station.
Renamed as America Online, it grew,
Displacing CompuServe and The Source, it knew.
By '95, three million users it could claim,
AOL was the brand that rose to fame.
Pioneering the internet, it led the way,
With dial-up service for millions each day.
Instant messaging and chat rooms, oh so cool,
AOL Instant Messenger, the ultimate tool.
Netscape was acquired, a deal so grand,
And by 2000, AOL dominated the land.
But as time went on, dial-up declined,
Broadband rose, and AOL's fate was assigned.
Now part of Yahoo, a new chapter begins,
With Apollo Global Management, the story spins.
But let's remember AOL's legacy, so bright,
A pioneer of the web, shining with light.
