CVA34
Once upon a time, in the deep blue sea,
There sailed a ship, so grand and free.
USS Oriskany was her name,
A carrier of fame, with a glorious claim.
She was built for battle, strong and true,
An Essex-class ship, oh what a view!
But her story was unique, unlike the rest,
For Oriskany faced a different test.
Construction was halted, after World War Two,
But she was not done, there was more to do.
Converted and updated, she set sail anew,
As SCB-27, a design so true.
From the Pacific she roamed, with pride,
In Korean and Vietnam Wars, she did ride.
Brave men on her deck, fighting strong,
Earning battle stars, where they belong.
Her journey continued, after her last fight,
Decommissioned and sold, what a sight!
But she found a new purpose, in the deep,
As an artificial reef, where creatures sleep.
So let us remember, the USS Oriskany,
A ship with a story, so legendary.
From battles fought, to the ocean's embrace,
Her legacy lives on, in every place.
