Czapek yeast agar
In a laboratory, a special place,
Czapek's Medium, with a magical trace.
It helps fungi and organisms grow,
With ingredients that make them glow.
Friedrich Czapek, a botanist so wise,
Created this medium to everyone's surprise.
With water and sugar, a carbon delight,
It gives the fungi the energy to take flight.
Dipotassium phosphate, a buffering friend,
Keeps the pH balanced, a helping hand.
Magnesium sulfate and potassium chloride,
Provide essential ions, side by side.
Iron sulfate, a tiny sprinkle of gold,
Adds cations to the medium, as we're told.
But Arthur Dox, the chemist grand,
Added sodium nitrate to the land.
With inorganic nitrogen, a selective treat,
Only certain organisms can compete.
And if you want it solid, like a jelly bean,
Just add agar, and watch the magic scene.
So in the lab, with Czapek's Medium near,
Fungi and organisms will have no fear.
They'll grow and thrive, with joy and glee,
Thanks to Czapek and Dox's recipe.
