DbtS
In the land of fruit flies, so small and petite,
There's a gene called Doubletime, oh isn't it sweet?
Discovered by Michael Young, a scientist so bright,
He found the gene that controls their day and night.
Doubletime, Doubletime, what do you do?
You encode a protein, called kinase, it's true.
This protein phosphorylates, oh what a delight,
The Period protein, keeping their clock just right.
With circadian rhythms, they dance and they play,
But mutations in Doubletime can change their display.
Some flies have longer periods, others are short,
And some lose their rhythm, it's a curious sort.
In mammals, there's a homolog, called Casein Kinase I,
It helps regulate the rhythm, oh my, oh my.
From fruit flies to vertebrates, the dance goes on,
DBT and its homologs, a rhythmical song.
So let's dance like fruit flies, in rhythm and rhyme,
With Doubletime guiding us, it's a wonderful time.
The dance of the circadian clock, so grand,
Thanks to Doubletime, we can all understand.
