In ancient times, so long ago, A word was born, a title to bestow. Doctor, they called it, so grand and wise, A name for those who teach and advise. From Latin roots, it came to be, A word that means "to teach," you see. The scholars of old, with knowledge vast, Were granted this title that would forever last. In Europe's halls of learning bright, The first doctorates shone with light. At Bologna and Paris, they were bestowed, To those who in wisdom's path had trod. Across the world, the title spread, To honor those with knowledge ahead. Contracted as "Dr" or "Dr.", it's true, A sign of a doctorate, earned by a few. But not just scholars, it does embrace, Medical practitioners, with a smiling face. In many lands, they're called "Doctor" too, Helping us heal, in all that they do.
