In the world of computers, there's a connection so fine, It's called PATA, a standard that's stood the test of time. Developed by Western Digital and Compaq, oh so clever, For hard drives and CD/DVD drives, it's used forever. PATA, also known as IDE, a name so grand, It's designed for IBM PC-compatible computers, you understand. Storage devices like hard disks and floppy drives it can connect, Optical disc drives and tape drives, it's truly perfect. The X3/INCITS committee maintains this standard with care, AT Attachment and AT Attachment Packet Interface, they share. A history of development, a journey so long, From the original AT Attachment to where we now belong. Once called IDE, it evolved through the years, With Extended IDE and Ultra ATA, shedding no tears. But in 2003, SATA came to the scene, And PATA was renamed, a new name so keen. PATA cables have a length limit, oh so true, Just 18 inches, not much to do.
