Eh Joe
Once upon a time, on a special day,
Samuel Beckett began to play,
With words and stories, he did create,
A piece for TV, a tale so great.
On his fifty-ninth birthday, full of cheer,
He wrote Eh Joe, a work so clear,
With characters and voices, he did mold,
A story that would never grow old.
But the first broadcast, it was delayed,
In German it aired, the story portrayed,
Elmar and Erika, they took the lead,
On Beckett's sixtieth, a special deed.
Then came the American production, so grand,
Directed by Alan Schneider, a trusted hand,
PBS aired it, for all to see,
On April eighteenth, a moment of glee.
Thirteen versions preserved, a testament true,
Eh Joe, a teleplay loved by many, it grew,
In books and on screens, it continues to shine,
A birthday gift from Beckett, so divine.
