FIA Pole Trophy

In a motorsports race, oh what a chase, The pole position is the best starting place. Earned by the driver with the fastest speed, They start at the front, oh what a lead! The pole-sitter, number one they're called, Their qualifying times, the best of them all. They start ahead of all the other drivers, With privilege and honor, they're the survivors. The starting grid, a place of great pride, Determined by qualifying, where they ride. The fastest qualifier, the one to beat, Awarded the advantage, oh what a feat! But it wasn't always the fastest one, Different formats, different races were spun. Championship rank or previous finish, Could determine the pole, oh what a wish! In important events, spanning many days, Qualification results had different ways. Segmented or staggered, by session or time, Only the initial qualifiers could climb. Sometimes, for entertainment's sake, The starting grid would be rearranged, oh what a quake! The slowest qualifier, the pole-sitter they'd be, To stimulate passing, for all to see. Before World War II, a different tradition, The pace car was the pole-sitter's position. In the Indianapolis 500, it led the way, A symbol of honor, each and every day.
