FV Jakob Goldschmidt
Once upon a time, in the deep blue sea,
There sailed a ship, so grand and free.
V 404 Baden was her name,
A German trawler, with fishing fame.
Built in 1930, she was strong and stout,
With a name that changed, without a doubt.
From Jakob Goldschmidt to Baden she went,
A new chapter in her life, she was sent.
During the war, her purpose changed,
Requisitioned by the Kriegsmarine, she was arranged.
A vorpostenboot she became, to protect the shore,
Sailing through the waves, forevermore.
But alas, in 1944, her fate took a turn,
Scuttled she was, to the ocean's churn.
Yet, post-war, she rose from the deep,
As Docteur Edmond Papin, a cargo ship to keep.
Sold to the United Kingdom, a new land to roam,
But her journey ended, for she found her final home.
In 1961, she bid her farewell,
As she was scrapped, her story to tell.
