GCIV
In times of war, when battles roar,
A treaty came to protect us more.
The Fourth Geneva Convention, you see,
Is for civilians, just like you and me.
In occupied lands, where danger lies,
This treaty brings hope to open our eyes.
It safeguards the people, young and old,
From harm and danger, brave and bold.
No intentional attacks, it firmly states,
On civilians and their precious estates.
Indiscriminate attacks, it will not allow,
For civilian lives, it will protect them now.
The principle of proportionality,
Ensures that attacks are done with sensibility.
No excessive harm, no unnecessary pain,
For civilians, peace we shall regain.
The norm of reciprocity, a guiding light,
To treat others as we would, with all our might.
Even non-signatories, this treaty does bind,
To protect civilians, it's a rule we find.
So let us remember, in times of strife,
The Fourth Geneva Convention, a gift for life.
For in war's chaos, it brings us peace,
And ensures that all lives, can find release.
