HZ (character encoding)
In the land of email and USENET too,
A special encoding was born, it's true.
HZ, the character encoding's name,
To bring Chinese characters to the email game.
Designed by Fung Fung Lee, oh so clever,
At Stanford University, a coding endeavor.
In 1989, this genius did create,
A way to send Chinese characters, oh how great!
Before HZ, email could only hold,
7-bit characters, a limit so bold.
But HZ came along, with a clever plan,
Using printable characters, a Chinese fan.
No ISO 2022 escape sequences here,
No 8-bit characters, no need to fear.
HZ made it possible to send with ease,
Chinese characters, oh what a tease!
In USENET networks, it became the star,
No more restrictions, no matter how far.
HZ encoding brought joy to many,
Chinese characters, sent by plenty.
