IL-29
In a land of cells, so small and grand,
There lived a cytokine, oh so grand,
IL-29, its name so fine,
A protector against viruses, oh so divine.
Belonging to the interferon crew,
Type III, called IFN-λ, it's true,
It fights pathogens with all its might,
Keeping us safe, day and night.
Epithelial cells, it loves to defend,
And hepatocytes, its support won't end,
With mechanisms like type I interferons,
IL-29 fights viruses, till they're all gone.
On chromosome 19, its gene does lie,
In humans, it's found, oh my!
But in mice, it's a pseudogene,
IL-29's protein is not to be seen.
So let's celebrate IL-29, so grand,
A cytokine protector, in our land,
With its immune response, strong and true,
IL-29 keeps viruses at bay, for me and you!
