IL-29

In a land of cells, so small and grand, There lived a cytokine, oh so grand, IL-29, its name so fine, A protector against viruses, oh so divine. Belonging to the interferon crew, Type III, called IFN-λ, it's true, It fights pathogens with all its might, Keeping us safe, day and night. Epithelial cells, it loves to defend, And hepatocytes, its support won't end, With mechanisms like type I interferons, IL-29 fights viruses, till they're all gone. On chromosome 19, its gene does lie, In humans, it's found, oh my! But in mice, it's a pseudogene, IL-29's protein is not to be seen.
