KL10
In the land of computers, oh so grand,
There was a machine, oh so unplanned,
Its name was PDP-10, a mainframe delight,
Manufactured by DEC, shining so bright.
From '66 to '83, it did its thing,
A computer family, oh how it could sing,
With TOPS-10 operating system, all the rage,
It was used in labs, like a wise old sage.
Its architecture, like the PDP-6 before,
With a 36-bit word length, and so much more,
The instruction set, a bit unusual, you see,
Byte instructions, operating so fancy and free.
In universities and labs, it found its place,
Harvard, MIT, and Stanford, with grace,
Building the ARPANET, oh what a feat,
PDP-10 played a role, so sweet.
But alas, the VAX stole the show,
PDP-10's extension, it couldn't grow,
In '83, its line was no more,
But in hacker folklore, it forever will soar.
