Kteniya
In the land of Bulgaria, so grand,
Stands a castle, oh so grand,
Ktenia is its noble name,
A fortress of Roman and medieval fame.
Perched high upon the Eastern Balkan Mountains,
Guarding the pass, like valiant captains,
Its ruins lie northeast of Sungurlare town,
A defensive position of great renown.
Through the ages, it changed hands,
Between Bulgaria and Byzantium's lands,
Once part of the First Bulgarian Empire,
Under Tervel's rule, it did aspire.
Conquered by the Byzantines, it fell,
During Ivaylo's uprising, they did quell,
But fear not, for Bulgaria's might,
Recovered Ktenia in a victorious fight.
Through wars and battles, it did sway,
A prize sought after, day by day,
In the end, it stood strong and proud,
Ktenia Castle, a legend endowed.
