In the world of networking, there was a special way, To send data over long distances, they had something to say, It's called Long Reach Ethernet, or LRE for short, With Cisco Systems leading the pack, they held the fort. LRE was a protocol, oh so fancy and grand, It supported multi-megabit speeds, across the land, Over telephone-grade wires, it could go up to 5,000 feet, Bringing fast internet to every street. You see, LRE was like a superhero in disguise, A Metropolitan area network, reaching far and wide, Similar to VDSL, but with Ethernet in its core, It brought connectivity like never before. Networking vendors joined the race, offering their gear, Compatible hardware, so the signal would be clear, But as technology advanced, LRE became obsolete, Newer methods took its place, a bittersweet defeat. So let's remember Long Reach Ethernet, with a smile, For its contribution to the networking aisle, Though it may be gone, its legacy remains, In the world of connectivity, where progress always reigns.
