M 76
In the sky, so far away,
The Little Dumbbell Nebula does play.
A planetary nebula, shining bright,
With stars that burst, oh what a sight!
Discovered long ago, by Pierre Méchain,
In Charles Messier's catalog, it was named.
Number 76, a comet-like thing,
But a planetary nebula it would bring.
Heber Doust Curtis, in 1918,
Recognized its true form, oh how great!
A bipolar nebula, bursting with light,
With remnants of stars, shining so bright.
Its distance is far, 2,500 light years,
A tiny speck, that brings us cheer.
With dimensions small, just 0.378 pc,
But its beauty shines for all to see.
Resembling the Dumbbell Nebula, it's true,
With two emission nebulae, in its view.
NGC 650 and 651, their names,
In the Little Dumbbell Nebula's fame.
So look up to the sky, my dear,
And let your imagination steer.
For the Little Dumbbell Nebula will inspire,
A love for the stars, that will never tire.
