NJ-S44A
In Gloucester County, you will find,
A highway that's truly one of a kind.
Route 44, it's called with pride,
From Bridgeport to Thorofare, it does ride.
Through Gibbstown and Paulsboro it goes,
Passing by the Delaware River that flows.
A two-lane road, undivided and true,
With scenic views for me and you.
Back in the day, it had a different name,
Route 17S, with its own claim to fame.
From Penns Grove to Westville it ran,
But only a portion was ever built, oh man!
In 1927, a change took place,
Route 44 was born with grace.
Replacing Route 17S, it paved the way,
From Penns Grove to Westville, come what may.
Spurs and bypasses, plans galore,
Route S44, S44A, and 44T, and more.
But in the end, Route 44 stood tall,
A highway loved by one and all.
