Ne (cuneiform)
In ancient times, so long ago,
A sign was used, you ought to know.
In letters old, it would appear,
To make the meaning crystal clear.
In Amarna's letters, it would shine,
At the start, in every line.
When addressing the Pharaoh's might,
Or those who were within his sight.
The sign was used to spell out "says",
In opening statements, it would blaze.
The words would flow, like a gentle breeze,
Expressing thoughts with so much ease.
In Gilgamesh, the sign would show,
Different meanings, we now know.
It stood for "wood" and "to rise up",
A versatile sign, like a playful pup.
Bil, kum, and pil, it would convey,
Ṭè and BIL, in its own special way.
Each meaning unique, each word so grand,
The cuneiform sign, a wonderland.
So let us marvel at this sign,
A symbol from a distant time.
It tells a tale of ancient days,
In cuneiform's mysterious ways.
