OTOR
In a land of genes, where secrets hide,
There lived a protein, filled with pride.
Otoraplin was its name, you see,
A protein that held a mystery.
From the Golgi apparatus it would roam,
Through the body, finding its own home.
In cartilage, it played a vital role,
Developing and maintaining, a precious goal.
But oh, dear children, listen close,
A polymorphism, a gene's grandiose.
In the start codon, a change could be found,
Silencing Otoraplin, without a sound.
And in this silence, a deafness may arise,
A challenge for ears, a different guise.
But fear not, little ones, for science will strive,
To understand and help us thrive.
Otoraplin, a member of a special family,
Melanoma-inhibiting, a gene so fancy.
With alternate polyA sites, it does exist,
A protein with secrets, waiting to be kissed.
