Oh, Mr Porter
Oh, Mr Porter, what a jolly old chap,
With his bowler hat and his walking stick tap-tap,
He starred in a film, so funny and bright,
With Moore Marriott and Graham Moffatt, what a delight!
In 1937, the film was born,
Directed by Marcel Varnel, a talent adorned,
Though not the most successful, it made quite a sum,
£500,000 at the box office, oh what fun!
To modern audiences, it's a classic, you see,
The best of Hay's work, a true comedy,
Based on a play by Arnold Ridley, it's true,
The Ghost Train inspired the plot, through and through.
The title, Oh! Mr Porter, a music hall song,
A catchy tune that everyone could sing along,
With laughter and joy, the film did unfold,
As Mr Porter's adventures were told and retold.
In November '37, it had its first show,
Then in January '38, to the public it did go,
Oh, Mr Porter, a film that will never grow old,
A timeless treasure, worth more than gold.
