PG-13 rating
In a world of motion pictures, where stories come alive,
There's a system in place, to help us all decide,
What films are suitable, for children young and old,
With ratings and certifications, to guide us as we're told.
In Australia and Singapore, the government takes the lead,
Deciding on the ratings, that the movies truly need,
But in the United States, it's done by industry committees,
With little government status, they make the final decisions.
Some films are morally offensive, and may be censored or banned,
To protect young viewers, from content that's not grand,
Even if there's no legal consequence, certain films are not allowed,
Forbidding minors to watch them, to keep them safe and sound.
Factors like violence and drug use, play a role in the classification,
If the protagonist carries them out, or if it's the antagonist's mission,
In Germany, war violence is handled with a lighter touch,
If it's set in a real war context, it's not seen as much.
Sometimes a film is made, with a specific rating in mind,
But if it doesn't get that rating, it may be redefined,
To avoid a higher rating, than what was first intended,
The filmmakers make changes, so the film can be comprehended.
So next time you watch a movie, with its rating on display,
Remember the system that helps, guide us along the way,
Movies can be magical, with stories to unfold,
And the rating system keeps us safe, as the tales are told.
