TdT
In cells so young and bright,
There's a polymerase with all its might,
TdT is its name, so grand,
Adding nucleotides, hand in hand.
In pre-B and pre-T cells it resides,
And acute lymphoblastic cells it guides,
With its magical touch, it does impart,
Junctional diversity, a work of art.
The DNTT gene, where it's found,
In humans, its secrets are tightly bound,
A member of the X family, it plays,
With polymerase λ and μ, in amazing ways.
TdT helps the immune system grow,
By creating receptors, don't you know,
More TCRs mean more resistance to fight,
Infections won't stand a chance, day or night.
Though it's been around for quite some time,
TdT's mysteries are still sublime,
In 2016-18, a new behavior was seen,
Trans template-dependent, a discovery so keen.
So let's celebrate TdT, our whimsical friend,
For its role in diversity, we commend,
In the world of DNA, it's quite unique,
A polymerase with a touch so chic.
