UV rays
In the land of sunlight, where rays shine bright,
There's a special light that's quite a sight.
It's called ultraviolet, or UV for short,
With energy higher than light we can report.
UV rays are sneaky, they're hard to see,
But they're there, buzzing around like a bee.
They come from the Sun, about ten percent,
And they're part of the rays that the Sun has sent.
UV light can do some amazing things,
Like making substances glow and giving them wings.
It can cause reactions, it can make things change,
But it doesn't heat up, it's a little strange.
Short-wave UV is strong, it can damage our skin,
So be careful when you're out, let the sunscreen begin.
It can give us a tan, or a painful sunburn,
And too much exposure, we must surely spurn.
But UV light isn't all bad, you see,
It helps make vitamin D for you and me.
And though we can't see it, insects surely can,
They see near-UV, a magical plan.
