In a world of cells, so small and neat,
Von Neumann's automata take a seat.
Inspired by Ulam, his dear friend,
They sought to understand, to comprehend.
With logic and insight, they did explore,
Machine self-replication, they did adore.
A universal constructor, their grand plan,
To unravel the mysteries, hand in hand.
Nobili came along, with a clever twist,
To von Neumann's automaton, he added a list.
Confluent cells could cross signals, you see,
And store information, how clever, how free!
With three extra states, a total of thirty-two,
Nobili's creation, something brand new.
A world of possibilities, waiting to be found,
In this augmented automaton, so renowned.
But wait, there's more, another variation,
Hutton's automaton, a delightful creation.
A loop of data, like Langton's loops,
Could replicate itself, in magical groups.
In this world of cells, where wonders unfold,
Hutton's automaton, a story to be told.
With loops and patterns, swirling around,
A symphony of replication, so profound.
So let us marvel at these automata grand,
In the realm of cells, where they expand.
From von Neumann to Nobili and Hutton too,
A world of possibilities, for me and you.
