XEGS
In 1987, a console was born,
The Atari XEGS, it was known.
An industrial redesign, oh what a sight,
Based on the Atari 65XE, shining bright.
A video game system, it became,
Alongside Nintendo and Sega, it gained fame.
Compatible with Atari's 8-bit kin,
With hardware and software, it fit right in.
As a stand-alone console, it could play,
Without a keyboard, it had its own way.
But with a keyboard, it booted the same,
As the Atari XE computers, what a game!
The basic set had a console and joystick,
While the deluxe set had more to pick.
With a keyboard, CX40 joystick, and light gun,
The XEGS package was full of fun.
New games were released, a whole new breed,
Barnyard Blaster and Bug Hunt, indeed.
Older games got a cartridge port,
Like Lode Runner and Fight Night, a great sport.
So let's remember the Atari XEGS,
A console that brought joy and success.
Though support was dropped in '92, it's true,
Its legacy lives on, thanks to you!
