Xyelidae

There's a family called Xyelidae, oh so grand! They are sawflies, with wings that gleam, And they're found in forests, like a dream. With only 80 species, that's all! In five genera, they make their home, And they're the only family in Xyeloidea, known. Xyelidae's history, we're told. Over 120 species, in the record they're found, The oldest dating back, when dinosaurs roamed the ground. In boreal regions, they dance and play. But a few Oriental species, can also be seen, Xyelidae's presence, is quite serene. Some feast on pollen, others on leaves they seek. The Xyelinae larvae, with conifers they dine, While Macroxyelinae, on deciduous trees they find. So let's celebrate the Xyelidae's tale, With their leg-like appendages, they never fail.
