In the land of microcomputers, long ago,
A program was created, called CP/M, you know.
It organized files, with such great ease,
On magnetic disks, it aimed to please.
Created by Gary Kildall, a genius mind,
CP/M was a system, one of a kind.
For Intel 8080/85, it was made,
To run programs stored on a disk, it stayed.
At first, it was limited, just one task at a time,
With 8-bit processors, it worked just fine.
But later, it grew, with multi-user flair,
On 16-bit processors, it had its share.
CP/M and S-100 computers, a perfect pair,
They became a standard, with widespread care.
Businesses loved them, in the late '70s they thrived,
And into the '80s, they continued to strive.
But then came DOS, and the IBM PC,
CP/M was replaced, it had to flee.
Though its time was done, its legacy remains,
For it opened doors, and broke software chains.
