Zhaleika
In a land far away, where melodies play,
There's a wind instrument, called the zhaleika they say.
With its slender shape, and its reedy tone,
It brings music to life, wherever it's blown.
With a name so unique, like a magical spell,
The zhaleika's music, oh how it does compel.
In Belarus and Russia, it's loved by all,
And sometimes in Ukraine, you'll hear its sweet call.
A folk clarinet, it's often called,
Or a hornpipe, by those who are enthralled.
With its haunting sound, so full of grace,
It transports you to a whimsical place.
The balalaika band, it joined with pride,
Adding its charm, as the music would glide.
And in Hungary, the tarogato did bloom,
Inspired by the zhaleika's magical tune.
The chalumeau, a clarinet's kin,
Perhaps owes its roots, to the zhaleika's spin.
So let's celebrate this instrument so rare,
And fill the world with its enchanting air.
