GGTP
In the body, there's an enzyme so grand,
Called GGT, it's quite in demand.
It transfers groups, oh so cleverly,
From molecules like glutathione, you see.
A transferase it's called, a special kind,
It moves gamma-glutamyl groups, you'll find.
From glutathione to an acceptor it goes,
An amino acid, peptide, or even H2O.
The gamma-glutamyl cycle it does partake,
Synthesis and degradation, it helps to make.
Glutathione, a molecule so fine,
With GGT's help, it's in its prime.
But GGT's talents don't end there,
It aids in detoxification, oh so rare.
Drugs and xenobiotics, it can break them down,
Keeping our bodies safe and sound.
In the liver, GGT is found,
A diagnostic marker, quite renowned.
It signals when something's not quite right,
Helping doctors in their medical fight.
