GWR 3001 Class
A locomotive was built, by William Dean's hand.
The 3001 Class, a sight to behold,
With 7 ft 9 in wheels, they were bold!
These engines were unique, their design praised.
The heating surface increased, for more steam to flow,
Longer boilers were built, to make them glow.
Eight convertibles were built, to maintain the train.
With wheels outside the frames, they ran with pride,
On the broad gauge track, side by side.
It was time for a change, the problem was heard.
Front bogies were added, to balance the weight,
Transformed they became, elegant and great.
As one of the most elegant, the railway had shown.
The Whimsical Locomotive, a marvel to see,
A symbol of engineering, for all to agree.
