HMAS Armidale
In Armidale, a city fair,
Two ships were named with love and care.
The Royal Australian Navy's pride,
Sailing the seas, side by side.
First came a corvette, strong and bold,
HMAS Armidale, we are told.
Launched in '42, a ship so grand,
But alas, it sunk in enemy's hand.
A patrol boat was to be the next,
Armidale, a name they would inflect.
But construction ceased, a sad affair,
No Fremantle-class ship to sail out there.
Then came the Armidale-class patrol boat,
HMAS Armidale, to stay afloat.
Commissioned in '05, a ship so fine,
Sailing the seas, it's duty's sign.
So let us remember these ships of fame,
HMAS Armidale, they bear the name.
A tribute to a city fair and true,
Sailing the oceans, in red, white, and blue.
