HOKPP
In a land of muscles strong and true,
There's a condition that can make you blue.
It's called hypoKPP, a rare affair,
When potassium levels start to impair.
When the blood's potassium takes a dive,
Muscles weaken, they cannot thrive.
A paralysis dance begins to unfold,
Leaving the body feeling weak and cold.
Adolescence is when it may appear,
Attacks triggered by things that bring cheer.
Rest after exercise, a high-sodium feast,
Or sudden changes in temperature, at least.
Excitement, noise, and flashing lights,
Cold temperatures and stress take their bites.
Muscle weakness can be mild or severe,
Certain groups affected, or the whole body, dear.
But fear not, for recovery will come,
When swollen muscles release potassium, some.
And if thyrotoxic periodic paralysis is the case,
Thyroid tests will help diagnose the embrace.
