PEF Survey of Palestine

In the land of Palestine, so fair and grand, A survey was conducted, by a learned band. The PEF, they were called, with hearts so bold, To map the land, with stories untold. From 1872 to 1877, they did explore, The Western Palestine, from shore to shore. With support from the War Office, they did strive, To create a map, so detailed and alive. Biblical and Talmudic, early Christian too, The PEF sought to find, the places anew. They collected place names, from far and wide, To uncover the history, that did reside. Twenty-six sheets were created, so fine, To capture the beauty, of each Palestine line. At a scale of 1:63,360, it was a sight to see, The most accurate map, of the century.
