Ur, Babylonia
Where the Euphrates flowed, shifting the sand.
Ur was its name, a city-state so old,
With stories and legends, waiting to be told.
A city of wonder, reaching for the skies.
Nanna, the moon god, was its patron divine,
In the abode of Nanna, the city would shine.
A temple so mighty, standing tall and bold.
Built by Ur-Nammu, in the 21st century BC,
A sacred place where people came to see.
The coastline shifted, a new landscape arranged.
Now well inland, on the south bank it stands,
A testament to history, in ancient lands.
Its stories and wonders, so pure and so pure.
In our hearts and minds, its legacy will stay,
A treasure from the past, guiding our way.
