In Virginia's state so grand, Lies a district, oh so grand. The sixth district, it is called, Where history and stories are enthralled. Roanoke and Shenandoah Valley, you see, Are part of this district, so free. Represented by Ben Cline, with pride, Since Bob Goodlatte's retirement, he does reside. Back in 2018, it was an open seat, Goodlatte announced his retreat. After many years of Republican reign, A new chapter began, a different campaign. Long ago, in the early days, The sixth district took a different phase. Byrd Democrats, they did sway, To vote Republican, come what may. From the 1930s, they started to split, Their tickets, oh how they did commit. Breaking the Democratic stronghold's spell, Republicans rose, oh so well. From '53 to '83, in Republican hands, The district thrived under their plans. But then came Jim Olin, a Democrat true, For a decade, he held the seat, it's true. Some counties in this district fair, Have not supported a Democrat's care. Since Franklin D. Roosevelt, they say, Their votes have gone a different way. Highland and Shenandoah, oh so true, Last voted Democrat in '32, it's not new. Augusta and Roanoke, they too, Have not supported a Democrat since '44, it's true. As a whole, the district's voice, Has not supported a Democrat's choice. Since Lyndon B. Johnson, long ago, In '64, they let their Democratic colors show. Random page: IXPE
